COVID-19: Taraba discharges 124 persons from quarantine

In what appeared a brave and deft move, irate youths in Tella village, Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba state last Friday stormed a Mobile Court sitting on the highway to administer justice on motorists that refused to comply with the lockdown orders and chased away the judges after beating them to a pulp.

The judges, three in number were beaten by the youths numbering over 20 and disrupted the sitting of the court.

It was gathered that the judges of the mobile court seeing danger ran away and took cover in a nearby sugar cane farm to save their lives as the youths overpowered the personnel of the Nigeria Police, Civil Defence and vigilante providing security for the judges.

The few police men and Civil Defence Corps that were keeping watch over the Mobile Courts’ proceedings had no choice than to take to their heels to escape the wrath of the attackers that visibly over powered them.

It was further gathered that the irate youths, destroyed proceedings papers and other court documents and money realized from fines during the sitting.

An eye witness told our correspondent that the irate youths appeared from nowhere and start beating judges of the mobile court without any prompting, sign or warning of a looming danger.

He said; “The youth in their numbers destroyed the proceedings papers and other documents before chasing away the judges and other officials. They began to sing “bama so bama so,” meaning we don’t want, we don’t want the court in our village.”

Findings from the police indicate that the youths are being seriously looked for by the police in the area with a view to tracking and arresting them.

TheTaraba State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP David Misal confirmed the incident, saying that the incident in Tella is an incident where Youths of the area resisted Mobile Court but the situation was brought under control.
