ASUU Gives Update On Re-opening Of Universities
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has kept up it won’t suspend the progressing strike activity.
National President of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi said this during a partner’s gathering at the Union’s Secretariat at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Educator Ogunyemi said the central government has constantly neglected to satisfy its Memorandum of Action concurred in 2019, demanding that the national government may trigger another round of emergency should it power ASUU individuals into the IPPIS Scheme.
He noticed that dissimilar to different areas, nothing has been set up by the government as per the COVID-19 wellbeing conventions for resuming of schools including that, “Understudies’ inns, address rooms and research centers don’t fulfill guidelines of schools in different nations”, which he said is a piece of the explanations behind the strike.

“We will return to the entire thing after this strike. Any division or Faculty where you think fair treatment was not followed in enlisting staff, reject them. We will remain by you.
“The Nigerian Project can’t be made conceivable except if our Universities meet people’s high expectations. Our partners have an obligation to tune in to all gatherings.
“The ASUU strike of 2013 that kept going 6months, we expounded on 59 letters and had 20 gatherings yet in this continuous strike we’ve expounded on four letters and we’ve had barely any gatherings. We’ve met with the Senate President and the Speaker and a few Ministers yet the main language they comprehend is strike activity,” he said.
The ASUU Chairman likewise blamed Vice-Chancellors for occupying reserves implied for the rejuvenation of colleges.
