NGADA Special Development Area was created on 21st September, 2016 by His Excellency Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku, the Executive Governor of Taraba State. NGADA was carved out from five local government areas in Taraba State. They are:-Bali, Donga, Gashaka, Kurmi and Sardauna. Administratively, NGADA Special Development Area is made up of six Development Zones. These are: Akweemam, Jaako , Goh, Fala, Nyimba, Njikun Zone respectively. Geographically, NGADA is located at the South-eastern part of Taraba State with the population of approximately forty thousand (40,000) people predominantly the Ndola tribe.
The name NGADA is an acronym of Ndola of Gola Area Development Association. Gola is the name of the big river in the area in Ndola language which is popularly known as river Suntai.
NGADA as an association was aimed at uniting the Ndola people which later agitated and championed the cause for the creation of NGADA Special Development Area. NGADA was headed by Rev. (Hon.) Nagombe Joseph Titus.

The Association conducted a survey of the area with the support of Gembu centre for HIV and AIDS Advocacy Nigeria (GECHAAN) under the leadership of an American Missionary Arthur Helwig who is very much conversant with the situation of the area for over ten years. After which one hundred and ten villages excluding hamlets were discovered. The association thereafter, sponsored some publications and documentary on her activities and made some stunning revelations of the hardship of the people of the area on the media.
On seeing one of the documentations, the wife of the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Her excellency, Barr. Anna Darius Dickson Ishaku (Naa Ndola) took it upon herself together with her team of pet project ‘Hope Afresh Foundation’ made an explorative visit to the area on 25th February, 2016. This was one of our most cherished moments to have dignitary visiting the area for the first time. On her return, she brought first hand information to the government on the realities face by the people of the area.
In set of series of meetings Mr. Arthur Helwig intimated the Governor Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku with the pathetic situation of the people in NGADA.
Subsequently, after meeting with the people of the area, the Association (NGADA) presented a memo to the State Government praying for the consideration of the area as a Development Area.
The State Government acted on the memo and forwarded same to the Taraba State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah. The House without hesitation deliberated on the memo and initiated a Development area Creation Order which after normal processes sent the bill to the Governor for assent.
Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku signed and pronounced the creation of NGADA Special Development Area with the headquarters in Sunkuru on 21st September, 2016.
